About GloweesHI!
My name is Chris. Glowees - like my life - is a partnership. My lovely wife & fellow artist Katie http://luludeuxmillinery.com has partnered with me to make Glowees glow on, grow on & rock on into the 21st century! A bit of history... I've been sculpting strange little creatures for just about as long as I can remember. In 7th grade math class, I started stealing little bits of my math teacher's picture hanging putty from behind the papers on the wall, leaving just enough to keep them hanging, till I had a marble-sized ball of the stuff to sculpt with. So, it was in math 701 that my little imps were born. It wasn't till years later that I thought of making them into jewelry. I work in polymer clays, which come in pigments, like paints, and I spend as much time color mixing as I do sculpting. I mix glow into my colors, and they have to look just right in daylight, in blacklight & in the dark. Each piece I do is one of a kind. I've sold my jewelry sucessfully at several boutiques in Greenwich Village in New York City, and unsuccessfullly at the Santa Monica Promenade (more pieces were stolen than were sold, so they wouldn't carry them any more). By far my favorite place to sell them was the adult playground known as the Renaissance Pleasure Faire at night. For hours I'd go around with a camping lantern affixed with a blacklight tube & my little jewelry box filled with my glowee creatures, playing trip-toy to many appreciative partiers. Often I'd be like the pied piper, leading a parade of people as I went from place to place to show off my wares, who kept repeating, “Dude. . . Dude. . . Open the box, Dude.”, And then, when I'd open it, “Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh, Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude!” Sometimes, I'd just sit with someone for the longest time, while they'd have conersations with my little glowing guys. People would buy them & name them & tell me what names they came up with for them. Feel free to do the same! | Upcoming Shows
